Bat walk

The land on which the Secret Garden is situated was designated for industrial use so we had to get its use changed to recreational.  As the planners knew that as part of the scheme we would be felling some trees and carrying out drastic tree surgery on others, one of the conditions on which planning permission was granted was that we should discover how many bats were roosting on the site and where.  Volunteers spent a fascinating evening with Bill Parker of the North Bucks Bat Group.  Using bat detectors we listened out for the bats.  According to Bill, because of the delayed time of arrival after dusk of the bats to forage for food, it was clear that there were no bats roosting in the Garden.
